Isn't that what Nigerian politicians are known for - hypocrisy? But it'll be foolhardy to regard him as a Christian. But I still don't believe there is any such idea of islamization of Nigeria, it's just impossible in this 21st century. 1 Like |

As far as I'm concerned, increase in cases of depression is a direct result of ungrateful heart even among Christians. Pride and idolatry has pervaded the many churches today because of worldly influence. How do you explain a physically strong and able-bodied young person deciding to end his God-given life if not for INGRATITUDE to the Giver of life. A lot of our young people need to start visiting the General Hospital frequently to discover how lucky and blessed we are. |

An estimated 800,000 people die by suicide annually and Nigeria now ranks among the top suicide prone countries according to the WHO. Nigeria’s suicide rate of 9.5 per 100,000 population ranks 10th in Africa and 67th in the world. The recent trend in suicide cases in Nigeria has been attributed to several underlying factors including depression, unfulfilled dreams, heartbreak, lack of job security, desperation to make it all all cost, inferiority complex, breakdown in traditional family structures among other causes. Mental health experts also warned that there will be more suicide attempts by Nigerians due to the increasing cases of depression, the leading cause of suicide. But the baffling aspect is the demography of suicide cases, which shows that it mostly involves young and able-bodied people (between the ages of 18 and 35). More baffling though is that most of those involved in suicide in the recent past were professing CHRISTIANS and regular church goers. So what could goad an able-bodied, supposed follower of Christ decide to end his/her own life since Christ Himself warned us about having tribulations in the world (John 16:33)? The unfortunate decisions of these ones to end their God-given life can only be borne out of INGRATITUDE to the Giver of Life. The above listed factors are common to most people, most especially Christians but a heart that is always filled with radical gratitude to our Creator will remain joyful and at peace in ALL circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:18 ; Colossians 3:15). In 2 Timothy 3:2, Paul described what people will be like in the last days, and one characteristic is INGRATITUDE. When pride and self-rule become fashionable, the human heart has no one to thank. We become convinced of our own supremacy and consider all we have and all we aspire to be as a just reward for our efforts or our birthright. INGRATITUDE and selfishness have become an integral part of our society today, especially towards our Ultimate Benefactor. INGRATITUDE is a product of PRIDE, IDOLATRY and LACK OF FAITH - it's not so much a cause of evil but the result of it. Once we harden our hearts to the point that we no longer see God as the Source of our lives and gifts, nothing is off-limits. We become a law unto ourselves. One reason the Bible takes such a strong stance against unthankfulness and INGRATITUDE may be that God knows that the end result of such arrogance is a reprobate mind (Romans 1:24). When we remind ourselves often that all we are and all we have is a gift from God (James 1:17), we are guarding ourselves against idolatry and pride. INGRATITUDE is a tool the devil uses to lead a person into total rebellion against God. It lends to an individual a feeling of false sense of self-worth, that he deserves more. If not checked, it becomes a plague of discontent that soon infects others, such as Satan's INGRATITUDE spread to other angels. As the attitude of INGRATITUDE continues to spread among the youths of this generation, so will suicidal thoughts and attempts continue to be recorded because we live in a broken world where all the aforementioned causes of suicide are inevitable and cannot be eradicated but will only get worse. We can't exonerate or brush aside the role of the churches in this disheartening trend. Since our moral values and ethos have been on a sharp decline in Nigeria, the Christian churches have unfortunately taken the same direction. The gospel of material wealth, miracles, fame and power at all cost is now the regular and common theme in most denominational churches today, no wonder the self-denial and godliness that used to mark out Christians from the world have become scarce lifestyles even in most churches. Regardless of how you may view it, it's another serious indictment on the Church in Nigeria. May our Divine Benefactor, among His many other blessings, bestow upon us that of a thankful heart, and enable us to give sincere, fervent, and perpetual praise to His Name, through Jesus Christ, His Unspeakable Gift! Amen. 1 Share |

Above all, masturbation dishonours God and denies Him His rightful Glory. God created SEX as a pleasure not just between a lawfully wedded man and woman but for His own pleasure too - what pleases God glorifies Him and what displeases Him deny Him His Glory. To be free from masturbation, just know that you can't resist the temptation on your own - it's just impossible. But if you're genuinely born-again, have FAITH in the indwelling POWER of the HOLY SPIRIT in you to help you against the temptation of pornography and masturbation. If you aren't born-again, ask God for a new heart and make His Spirit to purify you and take residence in your spirit. Sometimes the sin of masturbation may be a symptom of a struggling spiritual life under the bondage of FLESH (SIN). Then you need to depend on the Spirit's assistance to appropriate your victory over SIN by FAITH (Romans 6:11, 14 & 8:2) |

The church in Nigeria needs spiritual reformation and revival

The saddest trend today is the showing off and spending habits of people in the church which differ little from those of the world. The lifestyles of most professing Christians today are not substantially different from anyone else’s. Too many in the church (especially the leaders) have adopted the world’s indulgent attitude toward money. Almost every form of materialistic extravagance and excess has found its way into the fellowship of Christian believers. It is as if the church has forgotten Jesus’ mandate to invest in eternity. The symbol of the Christian faith is no longer the CROSS but seems to be PRIVATE JETS among church leaders such that it appears to be a tight competition among pastors nowadays to own and fly private aircrafts in a country where over 80% (including their ) live in abject poverty. If God were to take the Holy Spirit out of this world, most of what the churches are doing would go right on and nobody would notice the difference. Worse still, most church goers depend on wordly wisdom and energy to attempt to do God’s works. Of what use are the GIFTS of the Spirit without the FRUITS. If we expect the Holy Spirit to be effective in our churches, we must seek to glorify ONLY JESUS CHRIST above everything in all we do.

The major reason a genuine Christian continues to fall into sin is because he/she doesn't know or believe Christ has already delivered him/her from the bondage of SIN (Romans 8:2). FAITH in the GRACE of God is the first step if you must experience the reality of Christ's finished work.

Oyedepo is a gospel businessman who only preaches what people want to hear. Out of all the evil that emanates from pride, it's only marital destiny he could pick. What about living beyond the standard of majority of his congregation who contribute to finance his "church"? What about flying in private jets and showing it off at every opportunity to people who can barely afford 2 meals a day? What about making statements like "I'm dangerously rich" in a country where the majority of the younger generation are ready to do anything to be rich? The list can go on endlessly, but Oyedepo has never lived a Christlike example of a humility for the younger generation of Nigerians to emulate, no wonder we are seeing too many fraudulent pastors springing up every now and then. |

The church in Nigeria needs to go the reformation way. We can't continue to see these people tarnish God’s Name because of money and other material possessions. More people (especially true men of God) need to start speaking publicly against this man and his likes.

As much as I love Pastor Oyemade's sermons, I disagree with him on this. What if you make all the "right moves" and have all the "right tools", yet not able to succeed? What if there are some spiritual dark forces against your progress and success? Yes God's Grace teaches us and enables us to make wise choices, but a lot of people have have been taught by the best in the world and have made the wisest choices available to humanity, yet couldn't progress or get to where they need to be until they began to place themselves in God's plans and will. Simply put, some people can never make headway in life unless they begin to follow God's purpose and it only takes God's special Grace to know and pursue His purpose. We can't underestimate the need for God's Grace if we must go through life's most difficult challenges and come out successful. There are different levels of Grace for each of us, some need little grace without too much effort to succeed while others need a whole lot of grace. Still some people can never make it through with all their efforts without God's grace. 1 Like |

MuttleyLaff: Yes regeneration has to happen before indwelling. Today, indwelling of the Spirit starts immediately after regeneration - the event in the upper room was a significant one for everyone present at that time and it doesn't often happen that way today. |

The Bible(Word of God) is Spirit and can be written in books or phone applications. As long as God is using His Word (whether through phone or book) to write His Principles on your heart, the media doesn't matter. THE SAME WORD IN YOUR BOOK IS IN YOUR PHONE, IT'S THE WORD THAT MATTERS NOT THE MEDIUM.

MuttleyLaff: Being born of water and of the Spirit is the preparatory work for His indwelling. These two actions often happen at the same time though mostly not felt immediately. Of what use is His regeneration without His indwelling? What happened in the upper room is for the sign to be seen by everyone and it doesn't happen often that way today. |

I can relate so well with this. Growing up in a core pentecostal Christian home, where prayer and bible study were taken seriously. Even though the phrase "born-again" was a daily thing, I never really believed I was born-again even though my lifestyle was a lot different from those of my folks - at home and at school. I've never really experienced any dramatic supernatural change as I always hear people who newly got born-again usually do. I discovered later in life that all the while I didn't believe the Holy Spirit lives in me, He has always been there but I thought I had to be perfect(sinless) if I were truly born-again. When I attend some churches on invitation and I am asked to fill the new-comers form, I always see the space for "When did you become born again?", I just reply "I DON'T KNOW" |

Does it glorify God? If it doesn't, then don't let those carnally minded folks deceive you into displeasing God. The only sexual practice that pleases and glorifies God is that which you engage with your wife. If you can't hold on till you meet your wife, ask the Holy Spirit to help you, with His help you can hold on till the right time comes. Sex, as good as it is, just like eating food can be done in a way that displeases God. If you can fast on food with the help of the Holy Spirit, why can't you do same on sex? |

This is a very strong spiritual message. Keep it up OP!! Those who don't understand spiritual things will always be bitter with themselves for being confused seeing such a wonderful message. It's not OP's fault you critics are blind to spiritual realities and you can't assimilate and digest spiritual foods. YOU ALL SHOULD GET LIFE, ONLY YOUR CREATOR CAN GIVE THAT LIFE, SEEK HIM WHILE HE MAY BE FOUND - ONLY BY FAITH. 8 Likes 4 Shares |
