The Best Solution To Ending Kidnapping In Nigeria. (518 Views)

The kidnapping scourge in Nigeria has exceeded what the security agencies can handle. It is an embarrassing scourge all over the country. But that doesn't have to remain the case. Nigeria is a nation of 220 million people. Our population alone is enough to enforce certain changes. What change am I talking about? Making it impossible to use phones for kidnapping operations and ransom demands. What's this solution I'm talking about? RFID chips. How will this be a game changer? Enforcing the embedment of RFID chips in every new phone and SIM card sold in Nigeria. Existing phones and SIM cards should be phased out and deactivated after a given deadline for everyone to get new phones and SIM cards with embedded RFID chips. Why RFID chips? They can be small enough to be embedded in just about anything. The only issue may be the size of antenna they use to communicate but phones have large enough antenna for that. Whether the phone is switched off or the SIM card is removed, that won't stop the chip showing its location. While embedded RFID chips is not something phone and SIM card manufacturers have considered, if Nigeria with it's large population insists on this, these companies will find a way to make it happen. We can even find a way to place RFID chips inside small swallowable capsules that can stay in the stomach for days. So that wherever the kidnapped person is, he or she can always be tracked. Kidnapping in Nigeria can only be tackled when technology is a step or several ahead. Do we have the political will to get this done? 2 Likes 2 Shares |

No ransom is the ultimate. 99% of all kidnappings in Nigeria is for ransom. It will be difficult because kidnappers will used angry and be killing their victims but it will stop after sometime when the ransom is not longer forthcoming But you have a point too. But that's a huge technology and may gulp up billions in dollars considering the number of Nigerians using mobile phones. It also means we will find a way to invalidate phased out phones. So will it be possible? I know it's possible for SIMS but doubt if it will be possible for mobile phones. |

I'm starting to feel that the Nigerian elites and politicians are using the blood of innocent Nigerians to replenish themselves and their demonic covenants.. If not, I don't see how a certain group of migrants from the Sahel, who are not even Nigerians will be terrorizing, kidnapping and killing bona fide Nigerian citizens, yet the politicians don't see how demeaning and disheartening the situation is. Ah no.. Nigeria is a big crime scene. It's only when it's time for elections that they they have citizens. So shameful. Allow State Police or Regional Police or betterstill allow Nigerians bear firearms, they say no.. but everyday we see mass killings, mass burials, etc.. for how long are we going to contnue this way while heartless politicians keep destroying our lives and future.. ehnn? The so called men of God, Imams and whathaveyou are there looking, running their own rackets while innocent people die. So sad. 1 Like 1 Share |

Stop wasting your time. our security agencies know who the kidnappers are and they work together. If you want to stop kidnapping don’t give shishi. Fight back every time you’re being kidnapped fight hard to hurt one person and may be they’ll kill you if they failed to kill you then they’ll become vulnerable

200 million people, what’s the percentage of those actually kidnapped compared to the total population? Your suggestion will solve some problems but create very many. It may save a few, but it puts very many, if not all at risk. What about privacy concerns? Intelligence and local community policing with good intentions will be far more effective and economical. Nlfpmod, Seun please this topic should be on front page. This is a national emergency and needs to be discussed on daily basis. @ OP, your suggestion is good but have several limitations and loopholes that will be used to commit other forms of crimes by some Nigerians in collaboration with the corrupt security. The only way to stop kidnapping for ransome in Nigeria is to implement full cashless policy in Nigeria. Criminalize spending of physical Naira and Dollars. If Nigeria go completely cashless, kidnappers cannot get their ransom without trace. In fact it will become very easy to arrest them. But once Nigeria goes cashless, such that everybody start using cashless transaction, kidnapping for ransom will die a natural death. Any kidnapper that still think he can continue should give his number to receive the money by transfer. POS machines should be restricted to accepting only a certain amount, example NGN500,000. Every POS machine must have the chip OP talked about embedded in the POS machine so that it can be tracked by not just security operatives but by anybody that can use Google map or GPS tracking. Criminalize use of foreign currency in Nigeria so that they wont start demanding foreign currencies. This is the only way out 1 Like 1 Share |

Criminalize ransom payment, empower the forest guard project, state policing too.. Let the police man from bornu tackle criminals from bornu and see whether he won’t fish out criminal threatening his life and properties |

Talkisneeded: It's not as easy as it seems. Imagine your loved one is being tortured and they tell you not to drop the call, then tell you the torture continues if you don't pay up. Emotions will make you look for the ransom. |
