APC Secretary Chief Chidi Avajah Disowns Statement on Senator Kalu’s Visit to Governor Otti The attention of Chief Chidi Avajah, Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, has been drawn to a press statement circulating in the media titled “Disciplinary Action Awaits Those Involved in Anti-Party Activities ~ Abia APC”, which falsely attributes its authorship and content to him. Chief Avajah wishes to categorically state that he did not author, approve, or authorise the release of the said statement. The publication is spurious, misleading, and does not in any way reflect his views or the official position of the Abia State APC. Contrary to the content of the purported statement, the leadership of the APC in Abia is very pleased with the recent visit of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, former Governor of Abia State and the current Senator representing Abia North, to Governor Alex Otti. The visit is viewed as a strategic engagement aimed at wooing Governor Otti to President Tinubu's re-election —a move considered vital in strengthening the party’s position in the state and in the South East region. Chief Avajah reiterates that the Abia APC is solidly behind the efforts of Senator Kalu in building bridges across political divides. The Senator’s outreach to key stakeholders, including opposition figures, is part of mobilisation effort to reposition the APC in Abia State and galvanise for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda. The Abia APC welcomes every sincere effort to broaden its reach and deepen its base, including bringing back high-profile leaders who once contributed to the growth of the party in the state. The party encourages unity, strategic collaboration, and political maturity, not needless internal wrangling or factional provocations. Chief Avajah cautions the public, media houses, and party faithful to disregard the false statement and treat it as the work of mischief-makers seeking to sow division within the party. He urges of the APC in Abia and across Nigeria to remain focused on the bigger goal of delivering good governance through strategic alliances, effective mobilisation, and for President Tinubu and the national leadership of our great party. Signed: Chief Chidi Avajah Secretary, All Progressives Congress (APC), Abia State 13 June 202

STOP COMPARING ORJI UZOR KALU WITH FAILURES LIKE IKPEAZU AND T.A ORJI. It is criminal to put Orji Uzor Kalu, Okezuo Ikpeazu and T.A Orji in the same sentence as failures. OUK didn't fail as a Governor. I may have been young during his tenure, but I knew enough to understand what was going on. I didn't know much about Dr. Michael Okpara; former Governor of Old Imo State, and Dee Sam Mbakwe, so I can only draw comparison between 1999-date. OUK is easily the best Governor of Abia State since he was elected. President Obasanjo didn't brand him 'Action Governor' within just six months of his tenure for fun. OUK built almost all the Housing Estates in the State, including Okpara Auditorium, the Aguiyi-Ironsi Conference Centre, and Legislators’ Offices. Abia State University was one of the major beneficiaries of his istration; He built hostels, provided laboratory and other education equipments. He heavily ed SUG in matters of logistics and others, including over a dozen buses in donation. It was under his tenure that ABSU gained its reputation as a good destination to study law, because of his erstwhile . OUK built and equipped the Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH); he also recruited reputable professors which helped transform ABSU Faculty of Law into one of the best in the nation. I all these because I was an avid reader of the funny papers, and always had my ears pinned to the radio. It was under OUK that the Abia State Curriculum Module was reviewed. This move meant important subjects as Igbo, Agricultural Science, Physical Education and Health Education, were thoroughly covered. Through Abia State Primary Education Board (SPEB), and Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), which was founded at the beginning of his second tenure, he equipped hundreds of primary and secondary schools with free education, distributing educational materials and embarked on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of many educational facilities; built thousands of additional classrooms and increaseed the number of teachers per school. I vividly enjoying free education. We only paid dues like the, Parents/Teachers Association (PTA) fees and other thrifts that didn't concern the state Government. We were given writing materials upon resuming school every new academic year throughout my primary schooling, and we didn't have to buy most of the textbooks we needed, like 'Readers ' because they were readily available in the school library. At a point, there were even free uniforms for students. No, no, no, OUK and his succesors are no mate. He was very particular about education, having ed through ABSU and Cambridge. He put his ion for education to good use, in a move that benefited Millions of Abians. When it comes to road construction, OUK delivered; overseeing the construction of thousands of kilometres of road across Abia State: from the Urban to the Rural areas of Ngwa, Umunneochi etc. OUK launched a free medical scheme, with programmes that involved state-wide medical outreach. He ed the older populace with Agricultural empowerment. Ask any Abia adult, and they'll corroborate these claims. Nobody whispered them to me, it was no paid PR; I witnessed it with my eyes. He has maintained productivity as a senator of the federation with major road construction projects, rehabilitation of schools, distribution of education materials, installation of solar street lights, scholarships to students. I do not know how they managed to stain the man to the point of comparing him to inept individuals like Ikpeazu and T.A Orji both of whom threw sixteen years of Abia State's life into the bin. I can't comment on the claim that OUK stole Abia dry. I do not know about that. I however understand he was a Billionaire already in his thirties, and achieved a lot as a Governor. It is unfortunate that he got himself d with our oppressors. So I'm not surprised they're insulting him all over the Internet. It might just be a case of him being guilty by association. OUK has achieved it all, with several conglomerates to his name and excellent track-record as a Governor and Senator of the Federation. I wish he'll quit politics and stop frolicking with those APC losers. But it seems the man has other ideas. For everything he is accused of, being a political failure isn't one of them. If Alex Otti continues his impressive work, he could touch OUK's roof, and hopefully sur him. - Enwerem Chukwuka University of Nigeria, Nsukka. |

Gov. Alex Otti Acknowledges Sen. Orji Kalu's Blueprint in Aba, Says He Is Using It To Develop Abia State. Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has openly acknowledged that the infrastructure development template used by former Governor and current Senator representing Abia North, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, in Aba during his tenure is guiding his own ongoing efforts to rebuild the commercial city. Governor Otti made this revelation during Senator Kalu’s courtesy visit to his country home in Nvosi, Isialangwa South, on Sunday, June 8, 2025. Speaking warmly of the former Governor’s achievements, Otti said: “I am still using former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu’s infrastructure template for Aba. He did well in Aba when he was the Governor. That template is not wrong — you fix the place that generates the revenue, and the revenue will come and be used to develop other areas.” Governor Otti emphasized that his istration believes in building on the foundation of past leaders who left positive legacies, rather than discarding effective strategies out of political differences. “Government and governance is a continuum. It can be broken, but a wise government must go back and recover what worked. There is no need to dwell on the past or fight anyone. We are focused on resetting and moving forward,” he added. The Governor praised the foresight of Senator Kalu, recalling how his late mother was an ardent irer of the former Governor’s road construction projects in Aba. “My late mother used to say good things about what Senator Orji Kalu did in Aba. I have always believed that the approach he used was correct — start by fixing the revenue-generating centre of the state and spread development from there,” Otti explained. Governor Otti’s istration has been widely lauded for its aggressive road reconstruction and urban renewal in Aba, which is revitalizing the city’s economy and restoring investor confidence. The Governor also revealed that his infrastructure work in Aba is already yielding tangible results. He cited the recent N200 million private donation from a grateful Aba businessman to the government’s efforts in transforming the city’s road network. “People in Aba can now do business day and night. There is no sleep in Aba anymore. Money is changing hands, and the city’s economy is growing faster. That is how it should be,” Otti noted. In his response, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu commended Governor Otti for the remarkable progress his istration has achieved and expressed satisfaction that his developmental philosophy was being continued. “You have done well for our State. I am very happy to see that the road from Igbere to Umuahia, which was abandoned for over 16 years, is now smooth and motorable because of your leadership,” Senator Kalu said. Political observers say this mutual respect and cross-party acknowledgment between Governor Otti and Senator Kalu is a welcome sign of maturity in Abia politics, focused on the people’s interests above partisan divides. As Governor Otti continues his mission to rebuild Aba and Abia at large, his open embrace of tested and proven developmental models like that of Senator Kalu sets a refreshing example of continuity and pragmatic governance.

Nigerian Climate Advocate Michael Odenigbo Attempts Guinness World Record with 27,000 Trees in 24 Hours A Nigerian climate advocate, Michael Odenigbo, from Enugu State, is set to attempt a Guinness World Record for the most trees planted by an individual in 24 hours. The record-breaking event is scheduled to take place from June 5 to June 6, during which Odenigbo aims to plant 27,000 trees. The initiative, which is being ed by the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), UNICEF, and the Ministry of Environment, is part of Odenigbo’s broader climate advocacy efforts. Nobody Can Erase Orji Kalu’s Legacy in Abia — Rev Ota A respected Christian cleric, Reverend Kalu Ukpai Ota, has declared that no amount of political propaganda can diminish the legacy of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, stating that his contributions to the security and development of Abia State remain “undeniable and deeply rooted in the lives of the people.” Rev Ota made this known during an interview with journalists in Umuahia, where he ionately outlined the former governor’s achievements, describing them as “a comprehensive foundation for peace, empowerment, and long-term stability.” > “What Senator Orji Uzor Kalu achieved as governor and senator cannot be erased by propaganda. He laid the foundation for modern Abia, and those footprints are still visible today in our schools, hospitals, roads, and communities,” Rev Ota stated. "During his time as Governor of Abia State and later as Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu established a solid legacy marked by wide-reaching developments that collectively enhanced the security and stability of lives and communities across the state. "His istration's work in education created lasting impact by implementing free education from primary to tertiary level, covering WAEC and JSCE fees, and distributing over 155,000 desks and essential learning materials. He constructed and renovated more than 1,300 schools and increased funding to Abia State University. As Senator, he rehabilitated numerous rural schools and provided scholarships for medical students, strengthening the human capital base — an essential pillar of long-term social stability. "In agriculture, Kalu distributed 10 million day-old chicks to civil servants and cooperatives, and provided free palm seedlings and farming tools, creating jobs and boosting food security. As a senator, he further empowered farmers by distributing rice and fertilisers, and established a garri processing plant, reinforcing grassroots economic stability. "In the health sector, he upgraded Aba General Hospital to a teaching hospital and ensured prompt salary and pension payments to health workers. As senator, he provided medical supplies, including wound care kits and cervical cancer gels, and drilled boreholes in various communities, improving access to clean water — an essential step in preventing disease and strengthening public health resilience. "On infrastructure, Kalu prioritised road construction, completing over 200 roads as governor and facilitating over 70 rural roads as senator. Projects like the Owaza-Obehie-Azumini, Umuchieze-Leru-Lomara-Nneato, Ebem-Asaga-Ndi Ibe-Amuma-Okon-Amangwu roads opened up remote areas, improved trade, and enhanced physical security through better accessibility. "His tenure also brought unity and pride through sport. Under his leadership, Enyimba FC won the CAF Champions League back-to-back in 2003 and 2004, placing Abia on the continental map and giving young people a sense of purpose and achievement. "To combat poverty and social vulnerability, Kalu launched the Youth Empowerment Scheme (YES), offering training and to young entrepreneurs. He revived industries in Aba, created thousands of jobs, and, as a senator, distributed empowerment tools like motorcycles, sewing machines, and generators. He also ed small businesses financially and facilitated federal employment for constituents — initiatives that promoted social inclusion and long-term security. “All these achievements — whether in education, health, agriculture, roads, sport, or empowerment — worked in synergy to foster peace, reduce crime, and build a more secure and hopeful Abia State,” Rev Ota said. He urged Abians and Nigerians at large to judge leaders by their impact, not political convenience. > “History is watching. The legacy of Orji Uzor Kalu is not written in newspapers — it is written on the faces of people whose lives have changed because he led with vision and courage,” he concluded.

2027 Presidency: South West Should Produce All Presidential Candidates, South East in 2031 – Lamido The leader of Arewa Summit International, Dr. Bashir Lamido, has called for the South West to produce all presidential candidates for the 2027 elections, while advocating that the South East should take the same opportunity in 2031. Speaking during a high-level political dialogue on zoning and national cohesion held in Abuja on Friday , Dr. Lamido emphasised that this rotational approach would promote unity, fairness, and long-term political stability across Nigeria. “For the sake of equity, national integration, and the stability of our democracy, we believe the South West should present all presidential candidates in 2027. Then, come 2031, the South East – which has long awaited its turn – should be given the full platform to produce the next president,” Lamido stated. Arewa Summit International, under Dr. Lamido’s leadership, has become a leading northern-based political think tank known for its pan-Nigerian vision and commitment to bridging regional divides. He further stressed that the proposal is not about excluding any group, but rather about setting a national precedent for justice and inclusion. “This is not just about politics. It’s about healing, trust-building, and showing every Nigerian that they belong to the same nation. People may ask, what about the north? It should be the turn of the north in 2031. They forget that the North has spent more years leading the country than any other region. “It is just right to balance the leadership across the regions. We are only hoping that in 2031, the South East should be extended same national compliments as we are hopeful to do for South West in 2027.” he said. 1 Like |

2027: Tinubu’s gale of Endorsements Driven By His Performance, Not Fear of Opposition – Senator Orji Kalu From Abuja, Kenneth Udeh Abia-North Lawmaker, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has dismissed speculations that the growing wave of endorsements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 is a response to fears about opposition coalitions. Instead, the former Senate Chief Whip emphasized that the endorsements are driven by President Tinubu’s bold leadership and transformative policies. Addressing of the Senate Press Corps in Abuja on Tuesday, Senator Kalu who chairs the 10th Senate Committee on South-East Development Commission asserted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has no fear of any coalition, describing the party as “ionate about Nigeria” and focused on nation-building. Providing responses questions asked by the Senate Journalists at the National Assembly lobby; “No, no, no. I don’t think a party like APC has anybody to fear. We are the ruling party. We love Nigeria. That’s why many of us are building industries across the country to create jobs even outside government,” Kalu said. According to him, criticism from the opposition is expected and even necessary in a democratic setting, but such criticism should not be mistaken for weakness on the part of the ruling party. “The opposition must fight. That’s their job. But our job is to deliver, and we are doing our job perfectly well. In the coming years, Nigerians will appreciate what Mr. President is doing,” he added. On the President’s recent visit to the Vatican, which had sparked debates due to his faith, Kalu offered a spirited defense, explaining that Tinubu attended at the personal invitation of Pope Francis whom he described as a personal friend of the President. “It would have been disrespectful if he ignored the Pope’s invitation. About 1.8 billion Catholics, including myself, appreciate that gesture. In 2027, Catholics will that,” he noted. When asked about the Southeast Endorsement and zone's Party Loyalty The former Abia Governor further disclosed that the Southeast caucus of the APC had long thrown its behind President Tinubu, even before other endorsements emerged. He pointed to a prior endorsement led by key Southeast figures, including Governors and federal legislators. “We endorsed him weeks ago, chaired by Governor Hope Uzodinma and co-chaired by the Governor of Ebonyi and the Deputy Speaker. We initiated the national endorsement,” he said, proudly displaying his attire which he described as symbolic of his for the President. Giving his verdict on Tinubu’s Economic Policies,Senator Kalu praised the President for making tough but necessary choices like subsidy removal and exchange rate unification, acknowledging the current hardships but emphasizing that these changes were essential for long-term national stability. “I'm not a politician. I'm a businessman. And this is the first President who ended the cheap money culture. People made money from nothing before. This President is telling us: make money the right way or don’t make it at all,” he stressed. He maintained that Tinubu’s policies are already impacting the macroeconomic level, and projected that their benefits would soon reach everyday Nigerians. “Tinubu is not just a Southern President. He will be re-elected by both North and South because it's in the national interest. We don’t want the country to break, we want it to thrive,” he stated. On his plans for 2027, Kalu while responding to a question on his own political future and track record, Kalu reaffirmed his commitment to serving his constituents and Nigeria with integrity and ion. He said that while infrastructure and education have been priorities, his focus will shift to agriculture come 2027. “You must love people to serve them. That’s why I work hard. I don’t even keep a bank . Everything I have goes into helping people—through roads, schools, agriculture, and my foundation,” he declared. Senator Kalu also urged all Nigerian leaders regardless of party affiliation to speak the truth and focus on uplifting the people rather than trading blame or harboring bitterness.

OPINION: Orji Uzor Kalu And The Power Of Transformational Leadership — A Legacy All Abians Must By Onu Uche In a time when Nigerians are losing faith in leadership, it is more important than ever to the kind of governance that brought real, measurable progress to our people. One name that stands tall in Abia State’s history is Senator Orji Uzor Kalu —a man whose tenure as governor (1999–2007) was defined by transformational leadership and people-focused development. The numbers speak for themselves. According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Abia State had the second-lowest poverty rate in Nigeria during the 2003–2004 period. At 40.9%, Abia outperformed even richer or more industrialized states like Lagos (69.4%), Rivers (56.7%), and the Federal Capital Territory (53.3%). Only Oyo State had a lower rate. This was not achieved by chance. It was the result of deliberate policies and investments in agriculture, infrastructure, health, education, and human capital. Orji Uzor Kalu understood that real leadership isn’t about empty promises—it’s about building systems that work for everyone, from the market woman in Ariaria to the students in classrooms across Umuahia and Aba. While many talked about food security, Kalu acted. Under his directive, every Local Government Area (LGA) was mandated to cultivate 10 hectares of cassava. This initiative had the potential to revolutionize local production, and could have built a network of cassava-based industries across Abia. He also introduced the Tenera oil palm variety, boosting palm oil production for both domestic use and export. Kalu’s istration even baked bread from cassava flour to demonstrate its viability and reduce dependency on imported wheat—proof of his commitment to practical solutions. In health, the Kalu istration expanded primary healthcare services and improved access in rural communities. He rehabilitated general hospitals and constructed several health centres across the state, ensuring that even remote areas could access basic medical care. Abians will recall free medical outreach programmes and improvements in maternal and child health services under his leadership. Orji Uzor Kalu believed that education was the key to a better Abia. His istration invested in building and renovating public schools, supplying learning materials, and paying teachers regularly at a time when many other states struggled. He launched scholarship schemes and prioritized technical education—preparing Abian youths not just for jobs, but for leadership. Kalu’s tenure saw an unprecedented road revolution across Abia State. Major roads in Aba, Umuahia, Ohafia, Bende, and across LGAs were constructed or rehabilitated—many of which are still in use today. These roads opened up rural communities, improved trade, and made life easier for farmers, traders, and transporters alike. And who can forget what he did for sports? Under his watch, Enyimba Football Club rose to continental glory—winning the CAF Champions League back-to-back in 2003 and 2004. He invested heavily in the team, upgraded facilities, and inspired a sporting culture in Abia that united young people across backgrounds. As many fans often say, if Orji Uzor Kalu were still in charge today, Enyimba would be competing with top European clubs. Abians, let us not forget what real leadership looked like. Orji Uzor Kalu was not perfect, but his record speaks clearly. He transformed the lives of ordinary people—not through political noise, but through visible, lasting impact. He listened. He acted. He delivered. In today’s climate of rising hardship and declining public services, Kalu’s era reminds us that governance can work. It reminds us that with the right leadership, Abia can rise again—industrially, economically, socially, and globally. As we look to the future, let us demand leaders who can do more than talk. Let us demand leaders who can transform. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu did not just govern—he built a legacy. And that legacy is a challenge to today’s leaders and a reminder to every Abian of what is possible when a leader chooses to serve the people above self. Onu Uche writes from Ndi Ibe Ohafia, Abia State, Nigeria. |

SENATOR ORJI UZOR KALU @65: A REFLECTION By Femi ODERE I have since concluded that if one is to learn to have a glimmer of understanding of the mores, morals, traditions, belief systems, as well as the idiosyncrasies that shape us as a people and define our true essence, the National Assembly is a perfect observatory. Short of physically spending one's time in the natural habitats of other ethnic nationalities (which is practically impossible) to have appreciable understanding of their essence and those stated and unstated sociocultural nuances that are responsible for seeing the world around them differently from how an 'outsider' sees the same world, the National Assembly, which is the Third Arm of government in a representative democracy is a veritable bastion. The National Assembly is a place to be for those who are desirous of knowing more about other people because there are hardly any ethnic and sub ethnic groups that are not represented either in the command echelon of the legislative sanctrum, or the mid-level bureaucratic fortress of civil servants and political appointees, or the low-level staff and other janitorial services. It is a repository of all ethnic nationalities. For me, it was a no-brainer when the opportunity presented itself that one's second journey as a public servant must continue with the Third Estate of the Realm that I must actively extend a hand of friendship to other ethnic nationalities outside my own, considering my shortcoming in understanding, at least to some extent, the sociocultural nuances that make others tick, having spent a huge chunk of my adult life in the so-called advanced country. The desire to have some handshakes across the Niger, as the saying goes, became particularly compelling for me because this is the first time that an authentic president of Yoruba extraction with intimidating progressive credentials with which the southwest region is well known is presiding over the affairs of the Nigerian nation. In a nation whose people's governance experience has largely been conservative, even a tad short of religious fundamentalism, it may not be out of place for them to appear dazed and disoriented as they're being redirected by a completely new progressive governance template by someone who emphatically said, "Emi Lokan." Some people who never imagined that a period like this would come are therefore probably going to wonder what manner of man is this "Emi Lokan" 'father' and his n'gbati 'children' who seems to have invaded the Federal Capital Territory because their "Emi Lokan" 'father' is in the saddle as he continues to affect Nigeria in ways never imagined nor thought possible. To be sure, a friendship with His Excellency Senator Orji Uzoh Kalu (APC, Abia North) was the furthest from my mind, having formed a not-so-endearing opinion of him, based on my unscientific and unempirical analysis, just as I have done with some of the country's major political players that I'm now beginning to back pedal after my interaction with some of them. In the case of Senator Kalu, an interview during a TV program where he spoke glowingly of President Tinubu and defended his policies vehemently changed my negative perception of him that I had to walk into his office the following day to confess my 'sins' against him. The conversation, or should I say, the lecture that ensured that day of his deep and long-standing relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the extent that Senator Kalu was instrumental to saving the then Governor of Lagos State from being 'felled' by then President Olusegun Obasanjo's sword, while the other five governors in the region were not so lucky, was mind boggling. "Obasanjo never forgave me for that until he made sure he sent me to jail," Senator Kalu said without any hint of bitterness. And time he did serve. It was also in the course of taking me down memory lane in this long-standing friendship with Asiwaju that Senator Kalu told me his son lived with then Governor Tinubu in his Bourdillon redoubt. It was a spirited conversation in which I asked him why he left the southeast wide open for a fake Peter Obi to politically desecrate the region. And he offered an explanation. It was a teachable moment that once again lent credence to the saying never to judge a book by its cover. We have become friends ever since, as the senator would sometimes tell me his whereabouts and share pertinent information with me. Senator Kalu's heart is pure. This purity of heart came in a multidimensional technicolor on his 65th birthday with an 8:55-minute video clip he shared with me some days ago. What Senator Kalu said in the video reflects how his mind works and the things he holds dear to his heart now that he's about to start the third and probably the last phase of his sourjoun on Mother Earth. The speech reflects an inwardly bound joyful personage as well as what can be termed as unedifying sociopolitical and economic conditions of his immediate environment that seem in perpetual conflict with his soul. The speech has two major components. One component (macro) has three compartments while the other component (micro) has two compartments. Developments are in the two compartments, while redress is in the third. His unseen interviewer started off by asking him why he was in China and not Nigeria to celebrate his 65th birthday. Senator Kalu, whose fundamental objectives and the directive principles of his very essence is business, says in no unmistakable that his new business project is a cashew nuts factory which has started "semi-production" in his Igbere homestead in Abia North Senatorial district. He said he was in the Asian country because major players in the industry had converged in China for a global show that coincided with his birth date. The development of Igbere, probably a sleepy town in Abia, is now very dear to him because he wants to spend the rest of his life in "making life better" for his people. The other developmental compartment, which is probably uppermost in the senator's mind, considering how he keeps revisiting the subject matter even after he has satisfactorily made his point, is indicative of his inordinate ion to see Nigeria attain her developmental aspiration in his lifetime. Using the several innovations and the ingenuity of his people during the civil war as anecdotal evidence, Senator Kalu was on point when he quipped that nations that went through wars either with themselves or with others has always used the experience to kickstart their developmental aspirations. But the Nigerian nation, notorious for its self-inflicted injuries and unforced errors, not to mention the fact that it is always snatching defeat from the jaws of victory at every turn, is an exception. He harped further on our inexcusable development deficits when he let it be known that, as someone who has traveled all over the world, no country has turned the developmental corner whose citizens are smarter than Nigerians, including the G7 countries. He's absolutely correct. Perhaps the big elephant in the room, which was almost an addendum, is his reminder to Nigerians that the Igbo ethnic group is the worst treated in the Nigerian nation. While the veracity of the senator's claim may be difficult to disprove, one wonders if the Igbos themselves have ever done any self-reflection and self-criticism about the methodologies and stratagems with which they engage other ethnic nationalities for a more conducive sociopolitical space in the polity. Far from telling a people how they should feel, this self-criticism, one would wager, is extremely important. After all, it is said that doing the same things over and over and expecting a different outcome is the height of madness. The Yoruba also say that if you're pointing a finger at someone, you should also be aware of how many fingers are pointing at you. Senator Kalu's reiteration that the Igbo didn't cause the civil war, perhaps taking a cue from General Ibrahim Babangida's "A Journey in Service," with all due respect, may not be a good way to make a case about his people's involvement in the needless war. If the Igbos are not responsible for the civil war, who then is? Babangida is a permanently damaged Nigerian leader with no credibility whatsoever to change the narrative of the civil war. He will probably remain in his maradonic element until he breathes his last. The yet-to-close civil war chapter is, it seems to me, a huge component of the Igbo Question. A Truth and Reconciliation Commission is never too late. Perhaps a good starting point in finding a lasting answer to the Igbo Question, which is, in actuality, a subset of the seemingly intractable National Question, is the 6-States solution for the Igbo nationality if we must be fair. The micro component of Senator Kalu's speech is his onition to the financially endowed and privileged Nigerians to think and do more for the poor in our society while reminding all of us that we should let love reign supreme in our dealings with one another because LOVE conquers all. About what he thinks is the definition of success at 65, Senator Kalu cannot be any more profound than that when he said that success should be defined by the number of people one pulls up and never to be determined by the amount of money one has. One hopes that someone will send the senator's video to former Senator Dino Melaye. Following your grandmother's counsel that whoever celebrates another man equally celebrates himself, this treatise is my own way of celebrating you on your 65th birthday. Happy belated birthday, Your Excellency. May your days be long! Femi Odere is a media practitioner and a Senior Legislative Aide (Stakeholders' Engagement and Mobilization) to the Senate President.

They further collapsed their structures into APC and prayed the party to accept them wholeheartedly. They pledged their unreserved loyalty to the new party and assured them of their committed loyalty and service. They noted that they believe in the philosophy of "Onye ruo ya erie" (He or She who works, will get rewarded) which is the mantra of Senator Kalu.

POLITICIANS YOU CAN'T UNSEAT IN ABIA COME 2027. OUK is not just only an acronym but a household name and a brand in politics. Anywhere you mention OUK doors will open on it’s accord. To the people of Abia North, Abia State and South East, OUK remains a pride and a force to reckon with. In 2019, when APC was the most hated political party in the South East, OUK won the Senatorial seat of Abia North against the PDP candidate and incumbent senator who enjoyed the of the sitting governor and party in power on the state, PDP. He went ahead to deliver his political godson, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu the current deputy speaker Federal House of Representatives. He further delivered the house of Assembly representative for Bende North state Constituency, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu. Timmy Johnson and Comr. Ndudim Oluchukwu are living witnesses. In 2023, the Obi wave came, a political tsunami that retired many powerful politicians, then OUK got his way out despite that wave coupled with the intense hatred for APC. He did that and retained his seat and thus gave APC a permanent seat in Abia North. The power tussle of who becomes the owner of structures in Abia APC came but OUK remained steadfast and silently things are falling into place for his favour. OUK will win in the next five seasons if he chose to be contesting toll then. It’s not all about emotion. His interventions and visible presence in his zone will never be ignored by his people. Hate him or love, OUK will defeat your preferred candidate come 2027 except he withdraws from the race. It’s not about gra gra it’s about knowing the game. Abia Had Nigeria’s Lowest Poverty Rate Under Orji Uzor Kalu’s Government – A Legacy Of Visionary Leadership By Onu Uche A data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that Abia State recorded the lowest poverty headcount rate in Nigeria after Oyo State in the 2003–2004 period, a remarkable feat credited to the istration of Governor Orji Uzor Kalu. According to the NBS report titled “State-level Head Count Per Capita Poverty Measure (%),” Abia State posted a poverty rate of 40.9%, which was not only the lowest in the South East but also the lowest in the entire country at that time after Oyo State with 38.0%. The figures show that Abia outperformed wealthier or more industrialized states such as Lagos (69.4%), Rivers (56.7%), and even the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja (53.3%). In the South East region, other states recorded higher poverty rates: • Anambra: 41.4% • Ebonyi: 73.1% • Enugu: 50.2% • Imo: 46.7% This data paints a clear picture of Governor Orji Uzor Kalu’s economic legacy, particularly in education, health, agriculture, sports, poverty reduction, rural development, and empowerment programmes. During his istration (1999–2007), the state invested heavily in roads, agriculture, and small-scale enterprises – all of which contributed to improving household incomes and reducing economic hardship across the state. The government’s pro-business stance, attention to infrastructure, and human capital development played key roles in the state’s progress. Also, Orji Uzor Kalu’s focus on decentralizing development through the “Rural Development Initiative” helped bring economic opportunities closer to the grassroots. More than a decade later, the state’s poverty rate unfortunately worsened – rising to 50.2% in 2009–10. Nonetheless, the data from 2003–04 remains a testament to what focused, able leadership can achieve. It also serves as a benchmark for current and future istrations in Abia State and beyond. While many Nigerian states battled widespread deprivation and underdevelopment, Abia State stood apart as a beacon of progress. This was not accidental. It was a direct result of focused, people-centered governance championed by Governor Orji Uzor Kalu in some critical sectors. Investment in Infrastructure Governor Kalu’s istration implemented an ambitious road revolution, constructing and rehabilitating over 150 roads across urban and rural communities. These included: • Urban roads in Aba: Cameroun Road, Ojike Lane, Ehere Road, Umuola Road, All Saints’ Academy Road. • Umuahia township roads: Aguiyi-Ironsi Layout, Okigwe Park, Nkwerre Road, Olokoro Street, Timber Road, Eze Ogbulafor Road, among others. • Strategic rural roads: Owaza-Obehie-Azumini Road (Ukwa East), Abiriba Ring Road, Ebem-Asaga-Ndi Ibe-Amuma-Okon-Amangwu Road (Ohafia), Umuikea-Omoba Road, and others. • Igbere Community roads: Central School Road, Amankalu Road, Golf Road with drainage, and Umuobasi Road. These projects eased movement of goods, reduced transportation costs, and enhanced access to remote areas, spurring economic growth. Education Revolution Governor Kalu declared free education at all levels, setting Abia apart from most Nigerian states. His istration: • Renovated 821 dilapidated schools. • Constructed 524 new classrooms. • Provided 155,000 desks and 1,700 teachers’ chairs. • Supplied 1,800 first aid boxes and thousands of instructional materials. • Updated school curricula to include Igbo, Agricultural Science, Physical and Health Education. Tertiary institutions like Abia State University (ABSU) received buses, 500KVA generators, new hostels, and uninterrupted subventions. Enrollment skyrocketed and literacy levels improved significantly. Health Care Development Kalu established the Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) in Aba and constructed 15 General Hospitals, ensuring every zone of the state had access to quality medical services. These moves directly impacted maternal and child health indices and contributed to life expectancy improvements. Sports Development The istration turned Enyimba FC into a continental powerhouse, winning the CAF Champions League back-to-back in 2003 and 2004. Infrastructural such as the Aba and Umuahia Township Stadia was provided, making Abia a sporting hub. Agricultural & Youth Empowerment Initiatives Governor Kalu believed that agriculture held the key to ending rural poverty. His government: • Established farm settlements and agricultural plantations to boost food security. • Launched the Youth Empowerment Scheme (YES) to equip youths with vocational and business skills. • Distributed farm inputs and grants to rural women, artisans, and farmers, especially in local government areas. Public Utilities and State Buildings Notable capital projects completed include: • Okpara Auditorium – the biggest civic center in the region at the time. • Aguiyi-Ironsi Conference Centre, Legislators’ Offices, and Commissioners’ Quarters. • Housing estates across the state to reduce homelessness. • t Allocation Committee Building for LG transparency. • Abia House in Abuja and staff quarters in Lagos and FCT for state employees. These structures enhanced governance and boosted Abia’s visibility at the national level. A Legacy Etched in Steel and Cement The numbers from the NBS weren’t coincidental — they were a manifestation of vision, hard work, and a deep commitment to the people. From health to education, agriculture to roads, and sports to economic empowerment, Kalu’s era in Abia remains a benchmark for what’s possible in public service. As Nigeria continues to search for models of developmental leadership, the Kalu years in Abia offer a roap of inclusive growth, proving that with the right priorities, poverty can be defeated and prosperity can be shared. Onu Uche, a public affairs analyst, writes from Ndi Ibe Ohafia, Abia State.

Mayor Ogalla’s Leadership Signals a Bright Future for Igbo-Eze North and the PDP _By Sydney Nweze_ In recent times, Igbo-Eze North has witnessed a remarkable transformation under the dynamic leadership of Hon Michael Uche Ogalla. His istration has not only addressed longstanding challenges but has also made significant strides in key areas such as security, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic development. These achievements are positioning him as a unifying force capable of delivering the local government area to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in future political contests. One of the most notable turnarounds has been in the area of security. For years, insecurity hindered the growth and stability of communities in Igbo-Eze North. However, under Mayor Ogalla’s leadership, coordinated efforts with local security outfits and community stakeholders have restored a sense of safety and order. This renewed security has laid the foundation for growth in other sectors. In healthcare, the Mayor’s istration has invested in upgrading primary healthcare centers, ensuring better access to medical services for residents. The deployment of staff and security to these Healthcare Centres, provision of solar-powered lights and increased medical outreach programs have also significantly improved public healthcare deliveries, especially in the under-served rural communities. Infrastructural development has taken the center stage in Ogalla’s governance approach. Roads that were once imable have been rehabilitated, facilitating better movement of people, goods and services. Improved solar street lighting all over Igbo-Eze North, and public utilities have also contributed to an enhanced quality of life for the people. His sincere focus on stimulating economic growth, disrupting the system to clear barriers that make startup of business in Igbo-Eze North difficult, empowerment of the youths, upgrading markets, etc, shall see the rise of local enterprises. Worthy of mention also is his drive to attract small-scale and large investments, that saw him tour Lagos, Port-Harcourt and Abuja recently, to woo entrepreneurs and captains of industries. These initiatives are gradually transforming the local economy and creating job opportunities, leading to a more prosperous and self-sufficient Igbo-Eze North. Mayor Ogalla’s inclusive leadership style and tangible achievements have expectedly boosted public confidence. As a result, he is increasingly being viewed as a formidable force within the PDP, with the capacity to consolidate grassroots and deliver electoral victory for the party in elections. In a Local Government Area where performance often speaks louder than promises, the novelty and innovations Mayor Ogalla’s istration has brought into governance are setting a high standard. If current trends continue, Igbo-Eze North may well emerge as a stronghold for the PDP under his stewardship.
