US President Donald Trump told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end the war in Gaza and stop talk of an attack on Iran, according to a source familiar with the conversation.

The two leaders spoke on the phone on Monday. Trump later said the call went “very well, very smooth.”

The call for Israel to change course comes as Washington pushes for a nuclear deal with Iran and engages in indirect talks with Hamas over a ceasefire in Gaza.

CNN has reached out to the White House for comment.

CNN spoke to multiple witnesses who recounted the deadly chaos that unfolded near a US-backed aid center in southern Gaza after more than 30 Palestinians were killed and dozens injured on Sunday, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

Netanyahu convened his top ministers Tuesday night after there was “some progress” in negotiations toward a ceasefire deal, according to his office. The purpose of the meeting was to give updates on the negotiations and discuss next steps.

Earlier in the day, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said there had been recent progress in ceasefire talks that also aim to bring back hostages held in Gaza.

“Israel is serious in its will to secure a hostage deal. There has recently been certain progress,” Sa’ar told a news conference in Jerusalem, adding that “in light of past experience, I don’t want to overstate it at this point.”

On Thursday, Hamas said it remains open to the ceasefire deal proposed by US envoy Steve Witkoff, but said it requires stronger guarantees against Israeli attacks.

In a televised speech on Thursday, Khalil Al-Hayya, a high-ranking official in the militant group, said Hamas has not rejected Witkoff’s proposal but has submitted amendments with stronger security guarantees.

Hamas wants any deal to include a permanent end to the war in Gaza and a withdrawal of Israeli forces.

Growing rift
Trump and Netanyahu appear increasingly at odds over the war in Gaza as the conflict es the 20-month mark. Netanyahu has made clear that his war goals include the complete disarmament and removal of Hamas, while Trump has pushed for an end to the war.

It’s one of several major issues in the region where a growing rift is emerging between the US and Israel. In recent weeks, the Trump istration byed Israel on a trip to the Middle East, reached a ceasefire deal with the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen that failed to halt their ballistic missile attacks at Israel, and lifted sanctions on Syria – even as Israel warns against legitimizing a regime run by former jihadists.

Meanwhile, Trump said his istration is “trying to make a deal so that there’s no destruction and death” in Iran. The sixth round of talks between the US and Iran is slated to start in the coming days.

During their call, Trump asked Netanyahu to stop talking about an attack on Iran, the source familiar with the conversation said, and halt the leaks and reports about plans and preparations for an Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Netanyahu has repeatedly pushed for a military option to stop Iran’s nuclear program. In the conversation with Trump, Netanyahu told Trump that Iran is just trying to buy time and isn’t serious about negotiations, the source said. CNN reported last month that Israel was preparing for a possible strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

The Trump istration has also been trying to expand the Abraham Accords, the landmark series of agreements from Trump’s first term that saw Israel normalize relations with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco.

But Saudi Arabia – whose agreement to such a deal would be the ultimate prize – has repeatedly made clear that it will not normalize relations with Israel without concrete steps towards recognition of a Palestinian state and a plan to implement the two-state solution.

US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said this week that a two-state solution is no longer a goal of US policy, as it had been for decades of both Republican and Democrat istrations.

“Unless there are some significant things that happen that change the culture, there’s no room for it,” Huckabee told Bloomberg News in an interview in Jerusalem. He said it won’t happen “in our lifetime.” Huckabee has previously advocated for Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and once said that “there’s really no such thing as a Palestinian.”

Earlier in the war, Trump laid out vague plans for a “Gaza Riviera” that envisioned US control of the coastal enclave and the displacement of large parts of the Palestinian population living there.

Must we Nigerians partake in fraudulent activities?

Ekeremadu was convicted not quite long for organ trafficking in the UK.

This is a shame to the nation.

Nigerians and fraud are inseparable
It seems to be in the DNA of an average Nigerian.

was October 7 attack not an offence ? pls educate us.

You can't justify the killing of 16000 innocent Palestinians due to the atrocities caused by few individual.

It is totally unfair to kill innocent Palestinians because of atrocities caused by Hamas

Hamas should pay the price not innocent Palestinians

Should residents in Borno state be killed as well because it is the home base of boko haram.

What is wrong with some of you Christians
I have never seen Muslims saying ill words against Jesus or Jehovah, because we weren't taught to do so.
It is you Christians that will curse prophet Mohammed(S.W.T), curse Allah, curse the Qur'an, abuse the Muslims. And you all will be so quick to say Muslim are not tolerant but revise is the case.

Some of you Christians are so much intolerant to anything partaining to Islam.

You don't say ill words to things that are sensitive or sacred. You all just believe because you are on social media and you are free to do whatever you wish to do.

Islam is the most beautiful religion on earth.
Zakat is one of the pillars of Islam.

Zakat is a means of distributing part of your wealth among the less privilege.
That is the purpose of Ramadan
During the month of Ramadan, you realize the pain the poor and the needy through then after the month of Ramadan, it is then obligatory for every Muslim who is financially sufficient to give out zakat.

How is this going to benefit the masses
Some corrupt officials will use this as an avenue to siphon the money meant for the less privilege into their private pocket

Even if you add Lagos to the West the numbers still favours the East according to that chart

You are getting it wrong
Western Nigeria originally consists of lagos, mid west and the western region

Western Nigeria was spitted into three region, unlike the east that was intact

The western Nigeria you are seeing on that chart consists of just five predominantly Yoruba state while eastern Nigeria consists of nine state which also include state owned by the Ijaw, Efik, Ibibio etc.

If western Nigeria was not splitted, it would have consists of eight state in which it figure would have sures that of the east.

It doesn't still matter

Trying to change the wrong perception people think of the slave trade is not going to change the fact that Africans sold their fellow Africans into slavery to the white men for mere items.

The white men could not enslave their own kind but decided to enslave Africans because they felt they were more superior to we Africans in which our forefathers actually proved to them by selling millions of individual they shared the same skin colour with into slavery.

The most shameful aspect of the slave trade is that, all this while the slave trade was taking place, none of the slave traders which were mostly Africans could not speak against it because of their selfish interest.

Enslaved african in the americas fought against the cruelty of slavery with the help of the British, who were white, their voices were heard and slave trade was successfully abolished

Am so certain if the British who assisted in abolishing slave trade were blacks, slavery would have continued to the 20th century.

After the abolition, Africans slave traders still participate in it illegally which is very painful.
But when the issue of slave trade is been discussed, we are so quick in playing the victim game and forgotten the greed of our forefathers that made them sold millions of Africans into slavery

Today we accuse the white of racism yet we do worse things to ourselves. We hate each other, fight each other, traffick one other, exploit one another and oppress the weak. That is why Afrca is so backward and poor despite being the continent with the most natural resources.

The earlier our leaders and will their followers let go off our selfish interest the better.

The Yoruba People: An Overview of Their Dialects and Global Influence

The Yoruba people, one of the largest ethnic groups in West Africa, are primarily located in southwestern Nigeria. With a rich history and diverse cultural practices, the Yoruba have made significant contributions to the arts, politics, religion, and social structures both within Africa and globally. Non-Yoruba Groups Closely Related to Yoruba

The following groups, though distinct, share similarities with Yoruba:

Igala – Spoken in Kogi, Anambra, Enugu, and Delta States.
Notable dialect: Ogugu.

The Yoruba Influence in the Americas

The transatlantic slave trade played a significant role in the spread of Yoruba culture and language across the Americas. Many enslaved Yoruba individuals carried their traditions, beliefs, and language to the New World, where they significantly shaped the cultural and religious landscapes of various countries.

Yoruba Communities in the Americas

Cuba – The Yoruba-speaking community, known as Lucumi, significantly influenced the practice of Santería.

Brazil – Known as Nago, the Yoruba have had a profound impact on Candomblé and other Afro-Brazilian religious practices.

Jamaica – The Yoruba people in Jamaica are referred to as Nago and Ettu

Haiti – Yoruba customs, particularly those related to the Nago people, are central to Vodou.

Trinidad and Tobago – Known as Yarriba, this community has preserved many Yoruba traditions.

Yoruba cultural influence can also be noticed in Belize, Bahamas, Montserrat, Grenada, Saint Vincent, Saint Lucia, Guyana, Suriname, Puerto Rico, Panama etc.

Historical Yoruba Groups Resulting from the Transatlantic Slave Trade

The transatlantic slave trade led to the emergence of various Yoruba-descended groups in West Africa and the Americas. These communities, often referred to as "Liberated Africans," played a key role in the cultural exchange across the Atlantic.

Gambia – The Aku Marabout community is made up of liberated Africans of Yoruba origin.

Sierra Leone – The Oku community, formed from liberated Africans, has deep roots in Yoruba culture.

Ghana – The Tabom people are descendants of Brazilian slave returnees and maintain strong Yoruba traditions.

Nigeria – The Saro community consists of Sierra Leonean slave returnees and is primarily found in Lagos.

Nigeria – The Aguda people are descendants of Brazilian slave returnees and reside in Lagos, Quidah, and Lomé.

Yoruba Migrants in Africa

Beyond the Americas, the Yoruba people have also migrated within the African continent, establishing communities in several countries:

Ivory Coast – Known as Anago.
Ghana – Referred to as Alata.
Cameroon, Gabon, and Equatorial Guinea – The Ilaje dialect is spoken in these regions.

Conclusion

The Yoruba people, with their rich cultural heritage, have made significant contributions both within Africa and globally. Through their diverse dialects, historical groups, and diaspora, the Yoruba continue to shape the cultural landscapes of several countries, from West Africa to the Americas. Their influence is ongoing, and their presence in cultural, religious, and social spheres worldwide remains profound.

What most people from the east don't know is that both the yorubas and the Hausas have their architectural design just like the Europeans. When you go to most cities in the north and you are in the ancient part of these cities, you will notice the ancient part of these cities consist of old houses with a particular architectural design, likewise most cities in south west. These is an evidence of early civilisation.

Europe, which is the most civilised continent in the world today has alot of old cities due to the fact that there was an ancient civilisation in the past.

The difference between Europe and Southwest is that most of the old buildings in Europe is being renovated, maintained and redesigned in other to look attractive and to promote tourism.

But in south west these old buildings are not maintained or even abandoned and are left to dilapidate.

If the people of southwest can exhibit the culture of renovating and maintaining these old buildings in other to make it conducive for living just like the Europeans most cities in southwest would look so beautiful.

These are examples of yoruba architectural designs. These architectural designs are part of the yoruba heritage that needs to be preserved.

Congratulations to them

United state is a country where individual's hard work is being appreciated. Your contributions and efforts in making making their society a better place is highly appreciated.

Unlike Nigeria, even as a professor you will be owed salary and your salary will be upheld if you dare speak for your right.

It is frustrating being a professor in Nigeria. Because your qualifications means nothing to the Nigerian government.
