The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has made a U-turn by suspending its planned prayer and fasting sessions aimed at seeking divine intervention to end hunger in the country.

This comes just days after a leaked internal circular, dated June 11, 2025, directed all staff—including directors, deputy directors, assistant directors, and value chain desk officers—to gather for weekly spiritual sessions at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

Signed by the Director of Human Resource Management, Mrs. Adedayo Modupe O., the circular urged staff to fast and participate in a prayer initiative tagged “Divine Intervention for Protection and National Development,” slated for June 16, 23, and 30.

“This is to invite all staff of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food to a solemn prayer session for God’s guidance and ing the Government’s effort to achieve food security,” the circular stated.

However, in a follow-up memo, the same director announced a postponement of the exercise “until further notice,” without providing any reasons.

The reversal follows growing public criticism and media inquiries about the ministry’s spiritual response to the food crisis, with many questioning its appropriateness amid rising hunger and inflation.

This crop of Nigerian leaders are the most unserious I have seen in my entire life.

It's not like there's anything wrong with prayers, but a student for instance, cannot cut classes, ignore assignments, fail to study and then go into the exam hall with prayers and fasting.

So, the news was actually true. Wow!

That means the policy makers in the ministry of agriculture from top to bottom has brain but it’s not functioning.

They all need to be sacked with immediate effect. It shows they are completely incompetent and can cause further hardship to the nation if they maintain their various official positions.

Here is what likely happened:
A meeting with all the directors with one of the agendas being "propose a solution to tackle food insecurity in the country".

And this nincompoop of a directory thought that the best she could bring to the table is to organise a stupid prayer! Very impractical!

That's what happens when you put clueless people at the helms of affair. You dismissed qualified people for people who don't even a a single iota of skills to get things right.

Nigerians are facing real hunger and inflation—this calls for robust strategy: irrigation systems, storage infrastructure, improved farmer access to finance, security for farmers, mechanization, seed quality, and market access.

Governance should be evidence-based. Prayers don’t plant crops, lower the price of food or stop herdsmen from killing farmers and destroying farmlands.
