A British enger has been confirmed as the sole survivor of a catastrophic Air India crash that left over 200 dead, according to reports from India, News360 Nigeria reports.

Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik told news agency ANI that one person emerged alive from the wreckage of the London-bound Boeing 787-8.

The survivor had been seated in 11A, according to the enger manifest released by authorities.

The seat was assigned to Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British national. Indian media outlets reported speaking to Mr Ramesh in hospital, where he recounted the harrowing moments after take-off.

“Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly,” he said.

According to local reports, Mr Ramesh also provided his boarding to confirm his identity and seat number.

Commissioner Malik confirmed to ANI that the survivor “has been in the hospital and is under treatment”.

Air India stated the flight was carrying 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese citizens, and one Canadian. The aircraft crashed into residential accommodation for doctors less than a minute after departure from Ahmedabad.

In a statement following the tragedy, King Charles and Queen Camilla expressed their sorrow over the loss of life: “We are desperately shocked by the terrible events in Ahmedabad this morning. Our special prayers and deepest possible sympathy are with the families and friends of all those affected by this appallingly tragic incident across so many nations, as they await news of their loved ones.”

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced that crisis response teams had been mobilised both in India and the UK.

“We know that British nationals were on board and I can confirm that the FCDO (Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office) is working urgently with local authorities to British nationals and their families, and has stood up a crisis team in both Delhi and in London,” he said.

Dream Liner 787 is becoming a problematic airframe with all its fly-by-wire controls and sensors, what happened to the days when pilots flew by the dexterity of their airmanships, when a pilot could crashland a heavy laden aircraft into a river without loss of lives or better still, glide an aircraft without fuel or engine power over long distance before landing at a public road....What happened?

This is heartbreaking....RIP to the dead. News like this is quite scary,you dont know who is involved, it could be your loved ones.
Like the feelings one hard during Bellview,Sosoliso and ADC airline crashes. I Kemas Chikwes as the then minister of aviation addressing the press,Borishade was also a minister of aviation on one of the crashes and was pleading with consigned family to stay calm,that the manifest will be made public.
It was terrible!

And he's still putting on earrings can you just image?

I am guessing the possible cause of this crash as either or the below:

1.) Bird strike that caused the engine to blow

2.) Engine overheating on takeoff, maybe a seal or an o-ring issue

3.) Collision with a projectile (possible missile from Pakistan)?


I am sure investigations are on, what a sad Thursday

He was lucky that it to happens during take off. Assuming the plane is already 10k feet above the chance of survival would have been very low.

Since the sole survivor said he heard a loud noise immediately after take off, I hope it's not a bomb blast that caused the downing of the aeroplane. What a tragedy. I don't think I will ever board a plane in my life.
