BloomingDale: do you "tell" questions? how do you "tell" questions? you are yet to answer my questions. how have women shaped the world in ways that are often underappreciated? have men not shaped the world? how have they been appreciated? were sewing machines created by women? were washing machines, cooking pots created by women? were pampers created by women? were cars created by women? what tools that make life easy for women were created by women? are the phones that they use in browsing and snapping pictures on a daily basis created by women? can you imagine a world without men? who will build the roads, the houses in which live, sustain the infrastructure? who will do the heavy lifting, climb masts and do dangerous jobs to ensure women dont have to? is the world complete without men and children? if "Women are the backbone of society, driving progress, nurturing dreams, and breaking barriers", what are men? |

The importance of women in the world is immeasurable, as they play vital roles in every aspect of society, culture, economy, and human progress. Their contributions span across history and continue to shape the present and future of humanity. Here’s a breakdown of their significance: --- ### **1. Social and Family Foundations** - **Caregivers and Nurturers**: Women are often primary caregivers in families, raising children and fostering values like empathy, resilience, and education. Their influence shapes future generations. - **Community Builders**: Women frequently lead community initiatives, from organizing local networks to advocating for social justice, healthcare, and education. - **Preservers of Culture**: Women down traditions, languages, and cultural practices, ensuring the continuity of heritage and identity. --- ### **2. Economic Powerhouses** - **Workforce Participation**: Women make up nearly half of the global labor force, contributing to industries ranging from agriculture and manufacturing to technology and finance. - **Entrepreneurship**: Women-owned businesses drive innovation and economic growth. In developing countries, female entrepreneurs often reinvest their earnings into their families and communities, creating a multiplier effect. - **Unpaid Labor**: Women disproportionately perform unpaid labor (e.g., childcare, household work), which, while undervalued, is essential for societal stability and economic productivity. --- ### **3. Education and Knowledge** - **Educators**: Women are often the first teachers in a child’s life and dominate the education sector globally. Educated women are more likely to prioritize their children’s education, breaking cycles of poverty. - **Advancements in STEM**: Women scientists, engineers, and innovators have made groundbreaking discoveries (e.g., Marie Curie, Rosalind Franklin, Katherine Johnson), though their contributions have often been overlooked historically. --- ### **4. Leadership and Governance** - **Political Representation**: Women leaders bring diverse perspectives to policymaking, advocating for issues like healthcare, education, gender equality, and climate action. Examples include Jacinda Ardern, Kamala Harris, and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. - **Peacebuilding**: Women are critical in conflict resolution and peace processes. Studies show that peace agreements involving women are more likely to succeed and endure. --- ### **5. Health and Advocacy** - **Healthcare Access**: Women’s health initiatives (e.g., maternal care, reproductive rights) are central to global public health. Healthy women lead to healthier families and communities. - **Advocacy for Rights**: Women have been at the forefront of movements for gender equality, voting rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and environmental justice (e.g., Malala Yousafzai, Greta Thunberg, Tarana Burke). --- ### **6. Cultural and Creative Influence** - **Art, Literature, and Media**: Women artists, writers, filmmakers, and musicians challenge norms, inspire change, and redefine narratives (e.g., Maya Angelou, Frida Kahlo, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie). - **Role Models**: Women in visible roles (sports, politics, science) inspire younger generations to dream bigger and break barriers. --- ### **7. Environmental Stewardship** - **Sustainability Champions**: Women, particularly in rural and Indigenous communities, often lead efforts to protect natural resources and promote sustainable practices. - **Climate Advocacy**: Women are disproportionately affected by climate change but are also key drivers of climate solutions, as seen in movements led by activists like Wangari Maathai and Vanessa Nakate. --- ### **Challenges Women Still Face** Despite their immense contributions, women globally confront systemic barriers: - **Gender Inequality**: Persistent gaps in wages, education, and leadership opportunities. - **Violence and Discrimination**: Gender-based violence, forced marriages, and lack of bodily autonomy remain critical issues. - **Underrepresentation**: Women are often excluded from decision-making roles in politics, business, and STEM fields. --- ### **Why Investing in Women Matters** Empowering women is not just a moral imperative—it’s a strategic one. Societies that prioritize gender equality tend to have: - Stronger economies, - Better health and education outcomes, - Greater social stability, - Faster progress toward global development goals (e.g., UN Sustainable Development Goals). --- ### **Final Thought** Women are not just "half the population"—they are architects of progress, pillars of resilience, and catalysts for change. Recognizing their value, amplifying their voices, and dismantling systemic barriers are essential steps toward a more equitable and thriving world. As the saying goes: *"When you empower a woman, you empower a nation."* 🌍💪 1 Like |

Happy Women's Day to all women. Nairaland mods should begin to discourage those clowns who always attack women for no reason. You say women are untrustworthy but you are a yahoo boy. Women are loose but you have more sex than King Solomon and Balthazar. Women are demanding but you thieves in government. Women are wicked but you are into fighting and violence. We should form an organisation called HEFORSHE or HE4SHE. This would be an organisation of men who promote gender equality, women empowerment, women's welfare, affirmative action, girl-child education etc. We also fight against gender-based violence and discrimination against women. Women should be financially independent so that they do not fall victim to those evil men like Helinues and Yarimo. Politically, it is scandalous that Nigeria has not produced a female governor since independence. By now we should be swearing in President Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. Nigerian female politicians should therefore start insisting on a female running mate (deputy) to all governorship and presidential candidates starting from the 2027 or 2031 elections. With the of the HE4SHE Organisation, we will persuade all the party structures to adopt the new policy nationwide. |
